What’s so great about CBG?

Of the hundreds of discovered cannabinoids in the hemp plant, one that has brought a lot of excitement and interest is CBG. CBG is an acronym for Cannabigerol and it is considered a minor cannabinoid since, once the plant has grown, it takes up only about 1% of the end harvest.

Like other cannabinoids, CBG interacts with your endocannabinoid system and the receptors. Like CBD, CBG is also non-psychoactive and has multiple potential benefits. Discovered in the 1960’s CBG has been shown in multiple studies to have great promise in areas of mood enhancement, neuroprotection and being an anti-inflammatory agent. CBG has also shown promise in how it may affect certain cancers in the body. 

The interesting difference with CBG is how it grows from its beginnings. 

Since all cannabinoids begin as an acidic precursor, the plant must grow to make the acidic precursor change into its final form. For example: CBDA turns into CBD. With CBG, however, it’s beginning phase as CBGA doesn’t exclusively evolve into only CBG. Instead, CBGA can become CBG, CBD or THC. This is why CBG is often referred to as a “mother cannabinoid” or “stem cell cannabinoid”.

This conversion pattern is also why there is only a small amount of CBG compared to other cannabinoids in the end plant. 

Because of the potentials of CBG on its own, as well as what it can do when coupled with CBD, 

many farmers are using science and seed genetics to facilitate crop potential with a higher level of CBG in them to be able to provide more goods with these cannabinoids blended together.
