What is CBDA / CBGA?
By now we've all heard about CBD and THC but how much do you know about the lesser known cannabinoids such as CBDA or CBGA? Research is just beginning to explore how these cannabinoids effect the human body but the results so far look promising.
CBGA is a foundational compound of the cannabis flower. In fact, you might think of CBGA as the “mother” cannabinoid. Why? Because CBGA is at the top of the chemical reaction that produces the three major cannabinoid lines: THCA, CBDA and CBCA. These eventually become THC, CBD, or CBC, respectively. CBGA may also convert to CBG, but in a majority of strains, CBGA eventually converts into either THC or CBD.
What are the benefits?
Like CBG and Delta 8 there is still ongoing research into all the benefits these cannabinoids produce. Most recently scientists have found CBD may be effective against COVID-19. The researchers found that two cannabinoid acids commonly found in hemp varietals of cannabis, cannabigerolic acid, or CBGA, and cannabidiolic acid, also known as CBDA, can bind to the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. Other studies show the potential benefits of CBDA and CBGA in metabolic disorders, heart disorders, and more.
How is CBDA / CBGA Oil produced?
Kurativ CBD now has a CBDA/CBGA oil that is a cold-pressed, whole plant, full spectrum CBD oil. What this means is that we literally take the entire hemp plant and press it until the oil is squeezed out from the plant giving you ALL of the cannabinoids and terpenes. This large amount of terpenes and whole-plant extraction process gives the CBDA/CBGA oil a bold, earthy flavor, abundant in terpenes and high CBDA-CBGA content.
Due to the cold press whole plant extraction process, each batch is unique and every batch produced may vary slightly in cannabinoid and terpene profiles.
Why is CBDA/CBGA different than most oils? It is packed with the acidic versions of CBD and CBG (CBDA & CBGA) as well as host of other cannabinoids. Cannabinoids found in raw cannabis are usually in an acidic state. CBGA is an acidic cannabinoid that breaks down into CBG, THCA, or CBDA once exposed to heat. Recent studies have suggested that these "early" cannabinoids may be exponentially more beneficial than the more stable, decarboxylated forms like CBD or CBG. "Early" cannabinoids (those found in the earliest stages of the plant's life) such as CBDA, CBGA, and THCA are thought to be the purest and most absorbable by humans and animals.
While the science is still discovering even more benefits when it comes to the acidic versions of CBD and CBG, Kurativ sees the potential in these cannabinoids and have recently released our own cold pressed CBDA/CBGA oil, now available online and at your local CBD retailers. This is oil the way nature intended.
