New research suggests CBD may be effective against COVID-19.

We recently posted an educational article on the potential role for CBD to help in the fight against corona virus. Well we have good news!.. another study has just come out last week and their findings also suggest CBD might help stop the coronavirus from replicating inside cells. They also found that patients prescribed CBD-based drugs for epilepsy had lower COVID-19 positivity rates than people who hadn’t been prescribed CBD.

Another Study titled The Potential of Cannabidiol in the Covid-19 Pandemic, the authors suggest that “cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychotropic phytocannabinoid, has the potential to limit the severity and progression of the disease for several reasons” and that cannabidiol should be considered as a “support drug against the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Of these reasons that they list, the published research states that “high-cannabidiol extracts are able to down-regulate the expression of the two key receptors” for COVID-19 (SARS-CoV2), and that they had found that to be so in “several models of human epithelia” that they had studied.

And it is not just CBD. Researchers in Israel poured through possibilities saying that it is not just CBD alone – but also minor cannabinoids and terpenes like CBDA / CBGA – that can help facilitate the positive response, as well. The study suggests that “a combination of CBD with terpenes was 3 times more effective at inhibiting cytokine activity than dexamethasone, a corticosteroid which a recent study found to be an effective treatment for Covid-19 cytokine storms”.

While the most recent data looks promising we still need more research to confirm these findings. Currently there are seven clinical trials registered that are investigating the benefits of CBD in connection with COVID-19, and several more taking place across the globe which we are watching and waiting to report on as soon as they release their results.

As more people share conversations on CBD and its many cannabinoids, their hundreds of active compounds and how they work with our bodies, hopefully the positives of CBD and other hemp extracts will continue to be found.
